2005: Dmitrijs Milkevics (pronounced Deh-MEET-tree-us MIL-ka-vics) experienced one of the finest seasons by a middle distance runner in Nebraska history, winning the NCAA outdoor title in the 800 meters with a school-record time of 1:44.74... the time was the all-time Big 12 best performance and broke the stadium record for the Alex G. Spanos Track, home of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials... competed for the second straight year at the IAAF World Championships for Latvia, finishing fifth in his preliminary heat (1:50.44) of the 800 meters... set a collegiate record in the 600 meters indoors at the Husker Invitational with a time of 1:15.60, only 0.60 shy of the world record... set the NCAA Midwest Regional 800-meter record with a winning time of 1:46.48 to reach the NCAA outdoor meet... finished runner-up with a then-career-best clocking of 1:45.10 in the 800 meters at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships... the time ranked third in the world at the time, and first among European athletes... also ran on NU’s third-place 4x400-meter relay (3:07.61)... broke his own Big 12 Indoor Championships record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.29 during the semifinals before being disqualified in the finals... won gold in the Special Invitational 800-meter race at the Drake Relays with a time of 1:47.68... finished runner-up at the Kansas Relays (1:50.29), while running a leg on NU’s winning 4x400-meter relay (3:12.12)... won the 400 meters at the Nebraska Invitational (46.95)... opened the indoor season with personal-best clocking of 2:22.82 in the 1,000 meters at the adidas Classic, for the second-best mark in school history... ran on NU’s third-place 4x400-meter relay at the Big 12 indoor meet (3:10.66). 2004: Milkevics capped an amazing freshman year by competing in the 800-meter run at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece... finished 14th out of 24 participants in the Olympic semifinals with a time of 1:46.62... won his preliminary heat in a time of 1:46.66... qualified for the Olympics after running 1:45.60 in Heusden, Belgium... reached NCAA All-America status for the second time with his sixth-place finish in the 800 in 1:47.51 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships... earned his first-career NCAA All-America honor with a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters despite battling the flu at the NCAA Indoor Championships... during the outdoor season finished second in the 800 at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 1:47.95... won silver in the Big 12 Outdoor Championships 800 in 1:48.07... ran the anchor leg on the second-place 4x400-meter relay team at the league championships... won gold in the Ward Haylett Invitational with a time of 1:48.04 to set a RV Christian Track record... took gold in the 800 (1:51.83) at the Nebraska Quadrangular... won the Big 12 Conference Indoor title in the 800 meters in 1:48.82... ran a time of 1:47.09 (oversized track) in the Cyclone NCAA Qualifier, and anchored the 4x400-meter relay team that qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 3:07.10... won the conference crown in the 800-meter run in a then-Big 12 meet record time of 1:48.82...was also a member of the second-place 4x400-meter relay team at the indoor conference championships (3:09.66)... clocked a Big 12 and Nebraska school-record time of 1:08.67 in the 600-yard run to win the adidas Classic... won gold and set a Husker Invitational meet record with a time of 1:48.75 in the 800 meters... won the Holiday Inn Invitational (1:51.54) to open the season. In Latvia: Milkevics ran a career-best 46.44 in the 400 meters at the 2003 European Under-23 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland... ran 1:49.4 at the 2003 President’s Cup in Valmeira, Latvia... has competed at four European Cups, two European Championships and two European Under-23 Championships for the Latvian National Team... was the Latvian 400-meter dash champion in 2001 (46.66) and 2002 (47.63).
