  • Three-Time Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Academic Honor Roll (2004, 2005, 2006)

2006 (Senior)

Senior Newt Lingenfelter was a valuable reserve on the offensive line during his Nebraska career and appeared in four career contests. Originally a walk-on, Lingenfelter was placed on scholarship at the end of spring practice in 2006.

Lingenfelter had the ability to play multiple positions making him a valuable reserve. He played in three games during his senior season.  He made his first appearance in a game in NU’s win at Colorado in 2005, after not appearing in a game the previous two seasons. Lingenfelter redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Lingenfelter was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll seven times in his career, and was one of 13 Huskers to participate in the Cotton Bowl as a college graduate after earning his degree in mechanized systems management.

Career
Lingenfelter has served in a backup role on the offensive line each of the past three years. He made his first appearance in a game in NU’s win at Colorado in 2005, after not appearing in a game the previous two seasons. A former walk-on, Lingenfelter redshirted in his first season at Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Plainview HS)
Lingenfelter was a standout for co-coaches Dean Boyer and Bob Green at Plainview High School. Lingenfelter played offensive tackle and defensive end and earned honorable-mention all-state honors. His performance helped Plainview to the state playoffs in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Lingenfelter earned 11 total letters at Plainview, four each in football and track and three in basketball.

Personal
The son of Bob and Julie Lingenfelter, Newton was born on Sept. 8, 1983. Lingenfelter carries a 3.163 cumulative grade-point average in mechanized systems management. He has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll six times in his career. His father, Bob, was an offensive lineman for the Huskers and lettered three seasons from 1974 to 1976.
