Officers for the 2012-2013 academic year have been selected by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
The state of Texas will have bragging rights among the SAAC officers as three of the four hail from the lone star state.
Golf student-athlete Neil Dufford was elected as President and is excited about the challenge and the opportunity. "We have the potential to make a huge impact within the Athletic Department and across campus. I'm looking forward to helping implement some programs and initiatives that will impact student-athlete welfare but also further integrate the student-athletes with other recognized student organizations," explained Dufford.
Basketball student-athlete Rebecca Woodberry was elected as Vice President. Woodberry has been extremely involved in community service since arriving in on campus from Arizona two years ago. Said Woodberry, "I have lots of energy and love leading others for the good of a common cause."
Rifle student-athlete Sunny Russell will serve as the Big Ten Conference representative ensuring her Husker peers are heard at the conference level. Russell recently attended a Big Ten SAAC meeting in Chicago and feels Nebraska can be a leader when it comes to impacting change. "Being the conference newcomers, we have already been able to suggest some ideas that will positively impact student-athletes conference-wide," remarked Russell.
Gymnast Eric Schryver was elected Secretary of SAAC and is eager to impact the organization already proposing several ideas. "I have some thoughts on how to enhance communication and promote opportunities and critical information to all student-athletes. Schryver was instrumental in rallying his gymnastics teammates to a runner-up finish in the 2012 Life Skills Team Competition.
Congratulations to Neil, Rebecca, Sunny and Eric - 2012-13 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee officers!
