Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team began their season Friday afternoon at the Devaney Natatorium with their annual intrasquad dual in which the Cream defeated the Scarlet 131-86. The Cream team was in control from start to finish, winning both the opening event (200-Yard Medley Relay) and the finale (400-Yard Free Relay). The win gives the Cream a 5-4 advantage in the all-time series.

The Cream were led by senior Ariel Weech, a part of all three winning relay teams and the winner of the 100-yard freestyle, and senior Amy Herman, who was the winner in both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Katie Davis and Natalie Morris also picked up wins for the Cream in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, respectively.

The Scarlet were led by junior Bailey Pons, who won the 500-yard freestyle by over eight seconds with a time of 4:59.24, adding to her victory in the 200-yard freestyle. Other victors for the Scarlet were Taryn Collura in the 50-yard freestyle, Hayley Martin in the 100-yard backstroke, and Kristin Strecker in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Head Coach Pablo Morales was pleased with the results, especially in the relays, noting, "Some of our times look more like end-of-the-year times." 

The Huskers will be back in action Saturday morning, as they hold their annual Alumni Meet at the Devaney Natatorium beginning at 10 a.m. 

The regular season will begin for the Huskers on Friday, October 12, when they travel to Grand Forks, N.D., to face St. Cloud State and the University of North Dakota.
