Watch BTNLive Interview with Tom Osborne

With all due respect to Tom Osborne’s age, Nebraska’s athletic director didn’t look, sound or act like a 75-year-old who might be slowing down when he appeared on BTNLiveThursday night in a Lincoln-to-Chicago simulcast interview with Big Ten Network sportscasters Dave Revsine, Howard Griffith and Gerry DiNardo. In fact, when Osborne officially leaves NU’s Athletic Department next summer, he might consider becoming a college football analyst in between his expected stints as a mentor, angler, grandpa, cook, dishwasher, dog-sitter and garage cleaner.

The 14-minute and 47-second Big Ten Network interview went flawlessly, and Osborne covered a lot of ground on a variety of topics, including succession planning, Bo Pelini’s transition from assistant to head coach, Urban Meyer’s zone read at Ohio State, Alabama’s fundamentally sound, clock-eating rushing attack, a Big Ten championship challenge that has five or six bona fide contenders, the purpose of an athletic department that few people recognize, learning new skills when you’re leading an $81 million department, watching practices, meeting recruits in all sports, the central focus on student-athletes, the importance of walk-ons and the inspiration of walk-ons even for NFL players, and why fundamentals are more important than tricks.

We’ve all heard how critics call some books “a good read”.

Well, with Osborne at the top of his game, this is “a good watch”.
