swimming and diving team travels to Iowa City, Iowa, on Friday, Nov. 30, for the
annual Hawkeye Invitational held at the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation
and Wellness Center. The squad will compete in preliminaries at 10 a.m. each
day, with finals at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Denver, Milwaukee, Washington State, Michigan, Northwestern, and Iowa will all
be present in what looks to be Nebraska's toughest test on the season thus
weekend's invitational will be a good gauge of how much the Huskers have
improved from a year ago, as they look to see where they stand in the Big Ten
this season. It will be Nebraska's first time facing Big Ten opposition since February's
Big Ten Championships. The Huskers finished eleventh at the meet, ahead of
Michigan State. Northwestern, Michigan, and Iowa finished seventh, eighth, and
this weekend's invitational, the Huskers will have over a month off before
holiday training in January. The squad's next official meet won't be until
January 19th, when they host San Diego State in a dual at the
Devaney Natatorium beginning at 1 p.m.
Last Time at Hawkeye Invitational: Husker Divers Shine at Iowa Invitational (12/4/11)
Payton Michaud and Amy Herman led
the way for the Nebraska diving team at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City,
Iowa. The three-day event concluded with six top-eight finishes for the
Michaud led the way for NU,
finishing fourth in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Michaud's
performance in the three-meter was a career best at 306.05. Her previous best
(284.63) was set earlier this season in a dual against UNO. Herman also dove
her way to a career-best in the platform dive. Herman finished second in the
event with a score of 264.85.
Alyson Ramsey and Kailey Harmon
finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the platform event. Kaitlan Walker
earned a sixth-place finish in the three-meter at 282.50.
Last Time Out: Huskers Take Third at Kansas Classic
The Nebraska swimmers finished
competition in the Kansas Classic at the Capital Federal Natatorium on Sunday.
The Huskers finished in third place with a team score of 674 on the weekend.

The Huskers got off to a great start
on Sunday, with Bailey Pons winning the 1,650-yard freestyle in a meet record
time of 16:48.88. Katt Sickle (17:16.92) and Morgan Flannigan (17:23.56)
finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Ashleigh Grammar finished in 14th
with a time of 18:14.60.
Ariel Weech was the other Husker
winner on the day, as she was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle with a time
of 51.31 seconds. Additionally, Hayley Martin had a big day for the Huskers,
placing fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.81), seventh in the 100-yard
freestyle (52.65), and earning a second place finish as a part of the 400-yard
freestyle relay team.
Ashley Reiter finished fifth in the
200-yard breastroke, while Kristin Strecker finished in eighth. Natalie Morris
placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.42.
Other top-16 Husker finishers were
Ellan Dufour (200 Back), Ashley Reiter (100 Breast), Kelsey Larson (200
Breast), Melisa Mexia (200 Butterfly), and Kelly Dunn (100 Free).
Overall, Nebraska won four of the
eighteen events on the weekend, with Bailey Pons winning both the 500- and
1,650-yard freestyles to lead the way.
