Chula Vista, Calif.- The No. 9 Nebraska sand volleyball team completed competition at the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge on Saturday at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center. Hayley Thramer and Amber Rolfzen posted a third-place finish in the gold division of the two-day pair's tournament.
Thramer and Rolfzen began their journey to third-place by taking down Aurora Davis and Fatma Yildrim form Florida State 22-20, 17-21, 15-13 in the gold contenders round two. In the third round of the gold bracket winners, Kelsey Robinson and Alexa Strange were defeated by Kim Hill and Lilla Fredrick of Pepperdine 19-21, 21-14, 15-17. The two Nebraska teams met in the gold contender round three as Thramer and Rolfzen beat Robinson and Strange 21-17, 21-17 to knock them out of contention and move on to the gold semifinals where they eventually finished third after being topped by Marija Milosavljevic and Jace Pardon of Florida State 10-21, 17-21.
In other action in the pair's tournament, Meghan Haggerty and Sheridan Zarda were defeated 14-21, 5-21 by Kellie Woolever and Kelley Larsen of Pepperdine. Kristina Pelliteri and Stephanie Pelliteri of Florida State beat Morgan Broekhuis and Kadie Rolfzen 17-21, 17-21, while Kelsey Fien and Alicia Ostrander fell to Victoria Adelheim and Jazmine Orozco of Pepperdine 20-22, 12-21. All matches were part of the silver bracket.
The Huskers continue play tomorrow as they take on Grand Canyon in team competition at 11 a.m. CT at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center.
