Dallas, Texas - Freshman Cassie Deeg shot an opening-round 79 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational on Friday.
Deeg, a native of Hugo, Minn., sits in a tie for 38th, while junior Katelyn Wright added an 80 over the first 18 holes on Friday to tie for 41st. As a team, the Huskers produced a 334 to head into Saturday's second round in 13th place in the 15-team field.
True freshman Hannah Luebke managed an 86 in her first career appearance in the Nebraska lineup. The native of Stuttgart, Germany, is tied for 68th. Junior Steffi Neisen rounded out NU's team score with an 89 to close the day in 73rd on the par-72, 6,301-yard layout at the Dallas Athletic Club. Jackie O'Doherty managed a 91 to tie for 76th with fellow Husker redshirt freshman Cassidy Stelzmiller, who was playing as an individual.
Kansas State heads into the second round on top of the team standings with a 294, just ahead of Oklahoma (295) and Denver (296).
Oklahoma's Chirapat Jao-Javanil claimed the top spot on the individual leaderboard with a three-under-par 69, while Oklahoma State's Julie Yang, Kansas State's Carly Ragains and Oregon State's Anica Yoo each produced opening-round 70s.
