The Nebraska rifle team resumes competition after having a week off. The No. 7 Huskers will face No. 11 Navy this Saturday at the NU Rifle Range. The match begins at 8 a.m.
Nebraska's first match of the season was against defending national champions West Virginia. The Huskers fought hard but came up short by only six points. Despite the loss, the Huskers moved up in the rankings from No. 9 to No. 7 and four Huskers were ranked on the Top 20 Scores List for that week. Denise Martin, Rachel Martin and Lauren Phillips ranked for smallbore and Maggie Mical ranked in air rifle.
“We are excited to be back in competition this weekend after having a bye week. We used the two weeks of practices to focus on areas of improvement that were highlighted by the match against West Virginia,” Coach Underwood said.
This is Navy’s first year in the Great America Rifle Conference. The team is coming off a win against USP and placed first at the Navy Invitational earlier this month.
The Huskers look forward to the competition this weekend. “It is great to have another top caliber team to compete against. Continually competing against top 15 teams just reinforces our mindset that we need to consistently be prepared and disciplined in our practices,” Coach Underwood said.
