Marcus Fleming has earned immediate playing time as a true freshman, appearing in four of Nebraska's five games. Fleming played in the opener at No. 5 Ohio State but did not have a catch. At Northwestern, Fleming caught five passes for 75 yards. He led the Huskers in receiving yards against the Wildcats, and his 28-yard reception was the longest of his career and Nebraska's longest catch of the game.

Entering the Iowa game, Fleming ranks fourth on the team in receiving yards (75).

Fleming is one of several Florida natives in Nebraska’s freshman class, including his Miami Northwestern teammate Ronald Delancy III. Fleming joined Nebraska after winning a state championship as a senior.

Fleming led Miami Northwestern with 58 catches and 981 receiving yards as a senior, catching nine touchdown passes. He also averaged 45.7 yards on 10 kickoff returns, including a 97-yard touchdown. Fleming played his junior season at Southridge High School. He played for Miami Senior High School as a sophomore, catching 22 passes for 692 yards and eight touchdowns.

A four-star recruit, Fleming was ranked among the top 250 players in the country by 247Sports, which also listed him among the top 40 wide receivers nationally. Fleming had numerous scholarship offers and chose Nebraska over several other top programs, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami and Penn State.
