Husker Student-Athletes: A Lifetime Experience

Nebraska Athletics is one of the few self-sustaining athletic programs in the country. Annually, Nebraska attracts over 1 million fans across its seven major team sports through the doors of its world-class facilities.

This incredible interest and support enables Nebraska Athletics to invest in the student-athlete experience, as well as the overall game-day experience. Nebraska is a leader in providing all the resources and support necessary for student-athletes to become successful in Academics, Athletics and Life. Nebraska will continue to strategically plan for avenues to strengthen the resources to support more than 600 Husker student-athletes across 24 sports.

What Nebraska Provides its Student-Athletes

Free MacBook Air: Every student-athlete is provided a MacBook Air while they are a student at Nebraska

N-Vest Nebraska Program: N-Vest Nebraska rewards Husker scholarship student-athletes for academic performance, success toward graduation and retention. Nebraska student-athletes who meet the established academic benchmarks will receive $5,980 per year for their academic achievement.

PEO Program: Qualifying letterwinner alumni are provided a one-semester postgraduate scholarship, valued up to $7,500, to apply toward an internship, study abroad experience, entrepreneur endeavor, or graduate school at any accredited institution in the United States.

Husker Bucks: Provided to student athletes to supplement meals on their own. Athletes have the chance to purchase a meal at local restaurants or choose to use the dollar value on groceries.

Adidas: Every Husker student-athlete is outfitted in adidas gear to wear both on and off the field. Nebraska and adidas have a longstanding partnership that goes back to 1997.

Nutrition: Nebraska provides individual nutrition counseling to every student-athlete. Along with the Lewis Training Table, Nebraska provides supplement stations for postwork recovery at both Memorial Stadium and the Hendricks Training Complex.

More than 600 student-athletes benefit not only from Nebraska's full cost of attendance scholarships and the MacBook Air program, but also the amazing facilities and staff support within the Dick and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex. Nebraska enters 2022-23 with a nation-leading 348 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 18 NCAA Today's Top Ten awards.

The athletic academic unit, located in the Dick and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex, provides personal and academic support to ensure that student-athletes will get the most out of their years as Huskers.

Featuring one of the most innovative and comprehensive academic support systems in the country, Nebraska is dedicated to helping its student-athletes become outstanding leaders in their chosen fields. The academic support team is composed of 14 full-time staff members and is certified by the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) as meeting the standards established by the N4A.

There is no place like Nebraska when it comes to the high-performance fueling of hard-working athletes.  Nebraska Performance Nutrition has a long-standing tradition of setting the highest standard for the ‘food first’ approach to fueling. Ask any of our student-athletes, in leadership positions, who compare notes with their contemporaries at Big 10 conference and national leadership meetings. The Nebraska Performance Nutrition program is setting the standard for student-athlete welfare across collegiate athletics and beyond.

At Nebraska, we have our own kitchen and our own culinary staff, that also means we have the ability to source a food supply that is second to none when it comes to fresh, natural and organic sources that we know and trust.

Nebraska has four, full-time Registered Dietitians (Sports RDs) on staff who help our athletes navigate the managed food supply that is served at each meal. Athletes are taught to follow a three-step approach called Fueling Tactics® that was conceived right here at Nebraska over three decades ago!  It’s a simple system, where food is merchandised in three steps, each delivering a health and performance benefit for hard-working athletes.

Regarded as the premier and most comprehensive Life Skills program in college athletics, the Husker Life Skills program is committed to providing proactive education, resources and support through college and beyond to promote total person development and preparation for life after sports. Led by Executive Associate Athletic Director Keith Zimmer, four full-time staff members coordinate community involvement, career planning, effective communication strategies and much more to benefit Husker student-athletes.

The Nebraska athletic medicine staff consists of five physicians, 14 full-time athletic trainers, eight graduate assistant athletic trainers, four full-time in-house athletic psychologists, one full-time neuropsychologist and sports psychiatry consultants who work directly with student-athletes..

Nebraska's medical facilities have long been among the nation's best, and NU's athletic medicine center within the Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex will keep the Huskers on the front line of technology for decades to come. In addition to Nebraska's North Stadium facility, Haymarket Park, the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Nebraska Soccer and Tennis Complex all feature athletic medicine areas. The Devaney Center's Athletic Medicine facility underwent an extensive expansion as part of the Hendricks Training Complex.

The future of athletic performance is here. The Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory utilizes a multi-method, multi-disciplinary approach to athlete performance and health through technology and academic expertise. Through collaborative expertise, the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory strives to bring the best to the student-athletes of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

In 2013, a 50,000-square-foot expansion of Nebraska's East Memorial Stadium brought together athletic and academic researchers in Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) under one roof to study human behavior and performance. The partnership is believed to be the nation's only joint, on campus athletic and academic research facility. The collaboration is a testament to Nebraska's commitment to student-athlete's performance, safety, and long-term health and well-being housed within East Memorial Stadium, allowing optimal accessibility for student-athletes, researchers, and coaching staffs.

More information on the NAPL can be found on Huskers.com here.

The university offers several housing options to undergraduate students, from the rich diversity of our residence halls to the more self-reliant environment of apartment-style living. Nebraska offers suite-style, apartment and traditional housing.

We offer you the choice of 17 residence halls, 14 on city campus and three on east campus. The halls are grouped together into complexes and feature a wide range of amenities.
