Big Red Travel to Mid-Winter Invitational

Fresh off a second-place finish in Illinois at the Flyer Classic, the Nebraska bowling team prepares for its second-to-last tournament of the spring, as the team heads to Jonesboro, Ark., for the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. (CT) on Friday, Feb. 16 and go through Sunday, Feb. 18, at Hijinx.

Four Huskers earned top 25 rankings in the individual standings last weekend with three being selected for the all-tournament team. Jillian Martin earned runner up honors with a 1,057 total pinfall and 211.40 average. Alexis Buchert placed sixth on the second All-Tournament team, 1,030 pinfall (206.00 Avg.), and Brenna Hartzler behind at seventh with 1,016 (203.20 Avg.). Kayla Verstraete rounded out the lineup at 25 with a 958 total pinfall (191.60 Avg.).

Alongside the No. 6 Huskers, No. 3 Arkansas State will host the 17-team field competing for the title. The tournament will feature 14 of the Top 25 NTCA nationally ranked teams in the country, eight of them residing in the top 10, including No. 1 Jacksonville State, No. 2 Youngstown State, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Louisiana Tech, No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, No. 10 Maryville, No. 11 Sam Houston State, No. 15 Wisconsin Whitewater, No. 16 Newman, No. 17 Oklahoma Christian, No. 23 McKendree and No. 24 Central Missouri. Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Grambling round out the star-studded field.

The Huskers will kick off the tournament on Friday morning with five matches of five baker game total pinfall. Saturday will consist of each team participating in five matches of traditional games starting at 9:25 a.m. (CT).

The combined results will seed each team for Sunday's championship bracket to conclude the tournament. Each team will compete in three matches of best 4-of-7 baker games for final placements and awards beginning at 8:10 a.m. (CT).
