Huskers Post School Record, Podium Finishes on Final Day

Nebraska swimming and diving closed the Big Ten Championships on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. with another school record and two additional podium finishes.

Gena Jorgenson shattered her own school record in the 1650 freestyle by 12 seconds with a 16:01.72. That time put the sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. at fifth in the event. Two days ago, Jorgenson broke the 500 freestyle school record with a 4:41.19. Caterina Bisiacchi added a 20th-place finish with a time of 16:37.28.

Maia Hall swam a time of 2:10.09, in the 200 breaststroke prelim to book a spot in Saturday night's A final and climb to second on Nebraska's all-time list. She went on to swim a 2:10.90 in the final to notch her second fifth-place finish of the meet. Sydney McCracken swam a 2:15.72 in the 200 breaststroke prelim to qualify for the C final, where she finished 24th overall with a 2:17.05.

Anastasia Tichy secured a spot in the 200 butterfly B final, touching the wall at 1:59.35 in the prelim. In the final, she clocked a 1:59.85 to place 15th overall.
Bisiacchi, Lexi Kucera and Sarah Barton all represented Nebraska in the 200 butterfly C final. Barton won the C final with a career-best 1:58.41, moving up to seventh on the all-time list. Kucera and Bisiacchi tied for 23rd, each swimming a 2:01.35.

Antonina Harned and Kelsey Clairmont finished 24th and 27th in the platform dive prelims with scores of 185.15 and 182.40. Frankie Webb added a 33rd-place finish for the Huskers (172.30).

In the 100 freestyle prelims, Emily Haimes took 34th (50.91), Anna Vlachou took 35th (50.93), Beatrix Tanko took 36th (51.14) and Giulia Marchi claimed 37th (51.20).

A relay team of Giulia Marchi, Haimes, Vlachou and Tanko placed 11th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:21.85.

Indiana won the team race with a final score of 1359. Nebraska placed eighth with 409 points.

Next up, a portion of Huskers will head to the Mizzou Last Chance Meet in Columbia, Mo. on March 2-3 for a chance to improve their times.
