McVeigh's Game Winner in Game 3

A former Husker shined one of the biggest basketball stages of the world last weekend, as Jack McVeigh was named MVP of the National Basketball League (NBL) Finals, as the Tasmania JackJumpers won their first NBL Championship.

McVeigh, who played at Nebraska from 2016-18, averaged 17.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in the championship series as Tasmania defeated Melbourne United, 3-2.  McVeigh had 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and eight rebounds in an 83-81 win in the finale and had 28 points and seven rebounds in game four.

McVeigh provided the moment of the series in game 3, as his 30-footer at the buzzer lifted Tasmania to an 93-91 win. McVeigh had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the contest and was in double figures in all five NBL Finals games.

McVeigh has been with Tasmania for the past four seasons, joining the franchise for its inaugural season in 2021-22. He has raised his totals every year with the JackJumpers, as he averaged a career-best 17.3 points and 5.9 points per game this past season.

McVeigh played three seasons at Nebraska before returning home to begin his professional career. His best year was in 2016-17, when he averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 30 games, including 11 starts. In addition to playing in Australia, he also played in Germany after the 2022-23 NBL season concluded.
