Written byShamus McKnight

Nebraska senior Keisei Tominaga started his Final Four weekend with a flourish, winning a pair of events at the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships Thursday evening in Phoenix.

Tominaga won the Hanes Originals Soft Touch Men’s 3-Point Championship before capping the night with a win in the Skechers Battle of the Champions in a matchup of the men’s and women’s 3-point champions.

In the Battle of the Champions. Tominaga defeated Indiana’s Sara Scalia. 20-16. Tominaga hit eight in a row at one point before closing the round by hitting five of his last six shots, including a pair of money balls, to earn the title.

Tominaga put on a show in the men’s shootout, posting scores of 25, 24 and 19 over three rounds enroute to the crown. The All-Big Ten guard led all competitors with 25 points in the first round, as he hit at least four shots from each of the five spots. He closed by hitting 10 of his last 11 shots, including a tribute to Stephen Curry waiting to beat the buzzer and turning around before the shot went in to close a 25-point effort.

Tominaga showed his flair for the dramatics in the semifinal against Ohio State’s Jamison Battle, hitting the money ball on the final shot of the rack to prevail 24-23 to advance to the finals. After a slow start where he missed his first three shots, Tominaga hit the final two shots of the first rack before going 17-of-20 over the final four racks. Tominaga trailed 23-22 as Battle had a chance to earn a berth in the finals but missed the money ball while Tominaga hit his final shot to move into the finals.

In the finals against Tyler Thomas of Hofstra, Tominaga got off to a quick start, as he connected on 10-of-11 in one stretch before clinching the victory by hitting three straight shots in the final rack for a 19-17 victory. In all, Tominaga hit 16 of 25 shots, including three money balls, in the final.

Tominaga will be in action on Friday afternoon, as part of the Reese's NABC All-Star Game. Tipoff for that event is at 5:30 p.m. (central) and it will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
